The ACHE

The ACHE controls the temperature of the detectors

The ADR Control and Housekeeping Electronics (ACHE) monitors and controls the Adiabatic Demagnetization Refrigerator (ADR) which keeps the detectors at a constant temperature of 60mK. (That's .060°C above absolute zero.)

The pulseheights from the detectors depend strongly on the detector temperature, so the ACHE must keep the temperature extremely stable. Temperature variations of just tens of microKelvin will degrade the performance noticeably.
